New Miss SA has learned from her mistakes.

This article was originally published in the South African newspapers “Die Burger” and Beeld
I have translated it from Afrikaans to English:
Johannesburg – The new Miss South Africa was dethroned as Miss Earth South Africa 3 years ago as she failed to fulfill her contractual obligations for this beauty pageant. Bokang Montjane (24) had to return her Miss Earth SA crown in 2007 after she had failed to show up for appearances as well as fulfill several obligations as representative of the organization the national director of Miss Earth South Africa, Ms Catherine Constantinides, said yesterday.
“I hope she has learned from her mistakes because if she has not, the country can’t risk having her as Miss SA.”
Montjane from Limpopo Province was crowned at the Sun City Superbowl on Sunday night. The first runner-up was Dhesha Jerham while Bianca Coutinhou was crowned as the second runner-up.
“Taking the crown away from her was a very unpleasant experience and something we really did not want to do,” Constantinides said.
“After several warnings, it reached a point where we had no other choice but to ask her to give up the title.”
“Miss Earth is all about young women who want to make a significant difference – women who wants to make a difference in our country by doing something for the environment. She is supposed to be a role model but Montjane did not represent us in the right way.”
Montjane said yesterday that she has learned from her mistakes and she is exited about her year as Miss SA.
“I’ve won other titles too and I have learned something from each experience and that has shaped me to be the person I am today. Of course I’ve made some mistakes but as Christian I believe God let’s you face certain situations to force you grow. Everything has lead to this moment – to be an ambassador for my country- and I know I can do it.”
According to Ms. Londi Sibisi of Sun International, the organizers of the competition, Bokang had to relinquish the crown as Miss Earth SA 2007 due to clashes her duties had with her university exams. At that time she was studying corporate communications at the University of Johannesburg.
